Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Bernards Twp 250 need my help?
The Bernards Township 250 committee has a small staff and the mission is challenging. Because we’re promoting 250 years of history, the task is far more manageable (and fun!) with the involvement and support of community members. What if I have the interest, but not the skills or knowledge?
We want your volunteer experience to be as rewarding to you as it is for our team. Training/mentoring is provided for all volunteer positions. How much time must I commit?
The amount of time you volunteer depends upon the type of position you choose, as well as the time you have available. What are some advantages of volunteering?
All of our volunteers receive invitations to all events…… You can also expect to meet interesting people and learn more about the area, event planning, community service and local history.
How Can I Get Involved in 250?
There are lots of ways to get involved with the 250 Celebration.

• Interested in food?
We need help with the creation of a very large Anniversary Cake for the special Concert in the Pleasant Valley
Park in July.
Other Events and Opportunities
• Looking for Girl Scout or Boy Scout opportunities?
Plans are underway for special additions to the programming of Charter Day and Memorial Day. Your group is welcomed to participate or bring something new to these events.
History Weekend in October is also a good volunteer activity as Bernards Township will have several historic sites participating. Scouts have been involved in this annual event and 2010 will need
extra help. See the Calendar for specific sites.
• Are you a cycling enthusiast?
A family bike tour in the Spring will cross the Township, visiting many historic and memorable sites.
We need help at way stations. A business or family may also choose to provide refreshments or respite along the way.
• Like to sing in the middle of your street?
Similar to the Hands Across America in 1986, on May 24th next year we’re encouraging residents to come out of their homes or businesses to sing Happy Birthday to the Town at the same time. Church bells will ring to start the event. You can help by organizing your neighborhood!
• Good with computers and like indoor work?
Many historical artifacts or records need to be digitized and brought into the modern world. A campaign to collect and scan this material is underway.
• Fancy yourself a good speller?
Help out with our Senior Spelling Bee!
• Is reading your passion?
The Bernards Township Library is promoting a “One Book—One Bernards” program for Adults, Teens
and Children. Help select the books we’ll be following all year and then read them!
• Is your family looking to volunteer at an event together?
Charter Day, History Weekend, the Hands Across Bernards- Anniversary Sing, are all ways you can participate. See the 2010 calendar for other options.
